The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our agency. We are looking for a caring and motivated Vision Aide/Driver to work with our blind/visually impaired students under the supervision of an Instructor for the Blind/Visually Impaired at USDB. This position is located in the Springville and travel is required throughout the surrounding area.

Principal Duties:
As a Vision Aide/Driver you will:

Drive a car or passenger van for transportation of staff.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
Detects and eliminates or minimizes safety hazards.
Inspects vehicle for safety, fuel, oil and water before departure.
Prepare teaching materials and tutor individual students under the supervision of the instructor
Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor
Perform such duties as may relate to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas
Assist with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor
Provide support in a classroom environment by working directly with teachers and students.
Maintain accurate records and logs.
Design and/or prepare training/instructional materials, teaching aides, and devices.
This a part-time position for nine (9) months (181) days each school year. Work schedule Monday through Friday, thirty (30) hours per week.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position will possess:
Practical knowledge of basic classroom techniques and organization.
Techniques for assisting and providing effective support to classroom teachers.
Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
Excited about working with students with disabilities.
Positive in their dealings with teachers and other staff.
Good listeners who follow directions well.
Respected and trusted by students and parents.
Willing to be flexible in work tasks and assignments.
Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.

Supplemental Information
There are risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. being subject to possible physical attack. Risks are related to the possibility of working with students who are non-compliant, self-abusive, and/or aggressive.
This position has strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students with limited mobility and/or their personal needs equipment. Must be able to lift and carry over fifty (50) pounds.
This is a part-time position for nine (9) months (181 days) each school year. Work schedule Monday through Friday, thirty (30) hours per week.
