Position Summary
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, performs various tasks as necessary to provide recreation services to the St. George Community. Assists the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor in providing overall leadership and direction for St. George Outdoors. Serves as a lead staff while providing feedback and coaching for all other instructors to ensure a quality culture within the program. The Assistant Supervisor will be competent and capable of leading all programs run by St. George Outdoors including: bouldering, rock climbing, rappelling, mountain biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and canoeing. Contributes to the growth of SGO through the creation and implementation of new programs and class offerings.

Oversees the work of other part time employees and volunteers during assigned shifts or tasks
Assists in staff training, assignments, recruiting, and evaluation of staff
Provide customer service in person and over the phone; answering questions and/or referring customers to appropriate staff members
Responds to public inquiries providing accurate information regarding recreation programs and services
May be delegated tasks normally performed by FT employees
Aids in the promotion and advertising of programs and special events
Registers participants for programs, classes and activities
General office and clerical duties
Copies and prepares various brochures, flyers, schedules, rosters, etc. for distribution
Organizes, cleans, prepares and maintains recreation facilities and other work areas
Works programs and special events taking charge in part or whole of assigned programs, events, or facilities
Runs errands
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing other related duties as needed
Follow all city policies and procedures

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note:
Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and other schedules to help prepare for recreation offerings. This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.

Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Preference given to those with education in recreation or a related field.

Experience:
Experience creating and implementing new recreation programs preferred
Experience coaching and providing feedback to other staff members preferred
Minimum two years of personal and/or professional experience coordinating, programming and leading outdoor recreation activities required
Minimum two years experience working with youth required
Customer service experience required

Licenses and/or Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.
CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
