Employment Opportunity
The Orem Public Works Department is currently hiring for a Public Works Technician in the Water Division. This is a full-time, benefitted position working under direction of a Public Works Field Supervisor in the Water Utility Group. Technicians in this group are responsible for water meter reading, maintenance, installation, and testing using a wide variety of tools. They also perform field audits, leak detections and field service account investigations.

Qualifications
Requires graduation from high school or equivalent and one year related experience, or equivalent education and training. Ability to read, install, test and maintain water meters. Ability to use a variety of hand tools. Ability to lift, on a regular basis, supplies, tools, and equipment, weighing as much as 100 pounds. Ability to deal effectively with the public, contractors, other employees and City officials, and to work as part of a team. Skills in the use of a computer, handheld electronic devices and various software programs.
The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and a criminal background investigation.

Pay and Benefits
The current salary range for Public Works Technicians starts at $20.01 hourly ($41,617.67 annually) and is in a Hybrid Step/Career-Ladder pay program that allows for automatic raises on the anniversary of an employee’s hire/position date (step) and career advancement based on meeting certain requirements (career ladder). New hires with previous comparable experience may be placed higher than Public Works Technician I Entry depending on previous experience, qualifications, and certifications.
