Duties
The purpose of the term position is to help higher-graded preservation staff to complete historic preservation work associated with upcoming funded projects. The incumbent will help to complete cyclic maintenance and recreation fee projects that involve preservation and stabilization of historic and prehistoric structures. Below are common duties:

Use and maintain hand and power masonry tools i.e. skill saw, electric drill, router, chainsaw, sander, table saw, jointer, radial saw, bandsaw, planer, shaper, floor sander, surfacing machines, trowel, float, hammer, pick, chisel, brick saw, angle grinder, and pneumatic chisel in cutting and shaping stone and repointing, resetting, and relaying masonry, and plastering.
Reconstruct, restore or rehabilitate wood structures. Assist higher graded journeymen to repair, reconstruct, restore and rehabilitate masonry structures by performing work such as stabilizing or constructing foundations, walls, chimneys, fireplace, and other building elements.
Assist with the inspection of historic structures/sites/landscapes on site to determine physical condition and the type and amount of maintenance required to maintain in proper condition.
Read, interpret and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, working drawings and building codes. Compute curves, arcs, tangents, and apply basic carpentry and masonry skills utilizing accepted trade methods and techniques.
Select appropriate materials to closely match historic fabric in color, texture, and composition, and apply selected materials in a manner appropriate to historic character.

Page Area Information: Page, Arizona is located on the Arizona-Utah border, 135 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Page is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches and Canyonlands to name a few. Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12 and college courses available through local Coconino Community College. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100+ in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year. Less Ferry Area Information: Lees Ferry is located near Marble Canyon, Arizona. Lees Ferry is about 50 miles from the nearest town of Page, Arizona, and 130 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Lees Ferry is situated along the beautiful Colorado River, 15 miles downstream of the Glen Canyon Dam, and is the launching point for Colorado River trips. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Lees Ferry is centrally located to many other public lands, such as the Grand Canyon North Rim, Vermillion Cliffs, Kaibab National Forest, to name a few. The town of Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, medical and dental facilities, K-12 schools, and college courses available through local Coconino Community College. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100+ in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver’s license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver’s licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You will be required to complete a respirator fit test as a condition of employment.
You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

(4) Work involves restoration of historic properties; your experience may be from a variety of building experience. (5) Have the ability to read construction documents when completing restoration and preservation projects. Experience should be clearly described and documented in your resume. Physical Demands: Duties require the incumbent to sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, work in uncomfortable positions, and walk over rough, uneven, and steep terrain. The incumbent wears protective clothing, gloves face shields, and/or respirator that may be uncomfortable, and the incumbent works from ladders, scaffolds, ad elevated planforms. The incumbent may be occasionally expected to lift and/or carry items up to and exceeding 50 pounds in weight. The incumbent must be able to camp and backpack in remote backcountry locations.

Working Conditions: Work is both indoors and outdoors. Work outside may be subject to extreme weather conditions, with wind, rain, snow, and ice, in temperatures ranging from below 0 to over 100 degrees. Work may take place at elevations ranging from sea level up to 10,000 feet. The incumbent is exposed to dust, noise, vibration, cuts, and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment, and may occasionally be exposed to hazardous materials that can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation and burns, as well as microbiological organisms and potentially hazardous wildlife. The incumbent is expected to wear personnel protective equipment as required and comply with all safety and occupational health requirements. Occasional overnight travel is required, including backpacking and camping in remote, backcountry locations.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework.
