The University of Utah seeks a highly motivated, student-centered, and dedicated professional to serve as the Director of Student Government, Engagement, and Success. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean of Student Leadership & Engagement, and in addition, the Director works closely with the elected and appointed leaders of the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) and supervises the SLI professional staff in this area. This critical position includes both supervisory and student advising elements, and is responsible for initiating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a full array of programs, services, and activities for student leadership initiatives that engage the student body.

Provide vision and strategic direction for undergraduate and graduate student involvement with the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU), the student government on campus.
Establish and maintain a high level of service to students that demonstrate the University’s commitment to a highly diverse and inclusive community.
Assists ASUU in regularly examining both the culture of the office (space) as well as the organizational culture. This may include measuring student satisfaction in order to create a sense of belonging and addressing issues at a variety of levels using organizational change strategies and techniques.
Develop and administer related budgets within university guidelines and confer with students and management staff to plan and implement a variety of funding and revenue-generating student activities and outreach. This includes but is not limited to the administration of the Student Activity Fee, totaling approximately $1.8 million annually. This includes high-level financial approvals, monthly Evidence of Review, and more.
Provide leadership and direction regarding University of Utah policy, procedures, and regulations and the ASUU Constitution, Bylaws, and related procedures.
Advise the ASUU Presidency, providing regular support and opportunities to think developmentally about leadership styles and skillsets. In addition, work with student leaders to determine Director’s presence and involvement at ASUU student-led meetings throughout the year. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned professional and graduate assistant staff, currently seven full-time professionals and three graduate assistants.
Evaluate, assess, and develop program components related to the student activities, ASUU, and research best practices and professional standards pertaining to executing student government advising, and student-led programming.
Represent the University of Utah at appropriate conferences, workshops, meetings, programs, and other activities.
Develop strategic and creative methods to incorporate student input and feedback in new programming and policies.
Assist students and advisers in the planning, development, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of student government initiatives and programs.
In collaboration with ASUU student leaders, develop and implement comprehensive and strategic plans to market and promote new and existing programs, opportunities, and services within student government.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency (1 year of a college education is equivalent to 2 years of related work experience); eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communications skills required.

Experience with increasing responsibilities in student life, student activities, student leadership development, or related area.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, alumni, and the public in a comprehensive university environment.

Master’s Degree in higher education administration/college student personnel or related field.
Minimum five (5) years of full-time experience with increasing responsibilities in student life, student activities, student leadership development, or related area.
Extensive training in leadership and student development theory and proven experience designing and implementing student leadership development programming.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, supervisory, and organizational skills.
Highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects,
balance conflicting priorities, and handle confidential information appropriately with minimal supervision.
Proven leadership in engaging and mobilizing diverse constituencies.
Experience creating and managing budgets and designing and implementing creative fundraising efforts.
Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics, and problem-solving skills.
