Research Development Associate IV, VPCAT Program. This position will work closely with program faculty, junior faculty, senior mentors, and the other team members to guide the research development of faculty research scholars and the pre-award grant application processes. The position encompasses a diverse array of duties, such as intensive faculty development and mentoring, extensive knowledge of internal and external research resources and funding opportunities, metrics and productivity tracking, and preparation of research grants. Individuals will be responsible for all grant related program functions, interactions and tracking of faculty scholars, and for writing up and communicating results in a timely manner to Director and senior leadership. The research development associate IV will be expected to direct and lead faculty development interdisciplinary grant related training and participate on interdisciplinary teams and committees that have an impact on the overall operation, strategic direction and success of the office.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
1. Proficient with all the duties and responsibilities of a Research Development Associate III.
2. Serve as the liaison with all other University of Utah faculty research development programs and activities and all research support entities.
3. Key contributor to proposal through writing, reviewing, editing, etc.
4. Collaborate with senior leaders to establish strategic goals and funding objectives of the research scholars.
5. Monitors and tracks all scholar and program research productivity and outcomes.
6. Assist faculty scholars in identifying funding opportunities based on specific areas of interest and initiatives. Assist in identifying complementary research interests among faculty and in assembling teams to address multidisciplinary, interdepartmental and intercollegiate funding opportunities.
7. Provides grant expertise and guidance regarding pre-award preparation, review, submission, and proposal alignment with funding agency and University of Utah policies, guidelines, and procedures to produce high-quality, competitive proposals. Lead and manage the proposal development process, working closely with faculty leaders at all stages, from strategizing the proposal’s fit to agency requirements to the final submission.
8. Work closely with department and research team personnel to define assignments, monitor assignment completion, obtain required documents, and provide leadership to proposal submission. Direct and participate in application assembly.
9. Write non-scientific sections of proposals, such as environment and resources; and edit completed proposals. Consult with and advise faculty/teams on budget issues and write detailed budget justifications.
10. Oversee grant submission process including communication with Grants and Contracts office, Office of Sponsored Projects communication and completion of required documentation (e.g. assembling all necessary documents for grant submissions including biosketch, letters of support, budget/budget justification preparation, ensuring submission timeline, assembly and submission using grants.gov etc.) meetings and grant-related update meetings.
11. Ensure proper grant related internal and external documentation is maintained, organized, and accessible.
12. Manage all tracking and reporting requirements and ensure timeline completion including accountability for project completion and annual reporting of productivity data. Ensure accuracy and completion of quarterly reports as well as annual reports for senior leadership.
13. Understand and advise faculty on University research accounting functions and principles.
14. Maintain personal work management system for tracking tasks and follow-up on actions to ensure timely completion of deadline driven tasks and outcomes.
15. Participates with other administrative staff as a member of the administrative team. Assists with staffing office events, helps others when available, meets with the Program Director weekly to review and troubleshoot projects.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree + two years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree + six years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Proficient in all duties of Research Development Associate III; possesses a broad understanding of University of Utah research initiatives, policies, and procedures as well as other agency research processes and procedures; experience in tracking and analyzing and tracking grant and funding data; demonstrated skill in mentoring early-stage faculty related to grant development and submission; sound knowledge of leadership competencies, proposal preparation, and grants management; strong leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
