The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our agency. We are looking for a caring and motivated Residential Aide to work with our residential students. This position is located in Ogden.
*Work Schedule: 20 hours a week. Monday – Saturday. 2 hrs. per day Monday – Thursday. 6 hrs. per day Friday and Saturday*
As a Residential Aide you will:
Assists Coordinator in working with blind/visually impaired students in the dorms.
Prepares activities under the supervision of the Dorm Coordinator.
Communicates the progress of the students as needed.
Performs such duties as may relate to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas.
Assist with routine daily activities, i.e. shopping, laundry, hygiene, etc.
May drive students to and from activities as necessary.
This is a part-time position for nine (9) months (181 days) each school year.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess:
Practical knowledge of basic living skills.
Techniques for assisting and providing effective support to students and staff.
Practical skills in working effectively with students.
Safe and timely response to special situations.
Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
Communicate clearly and effectively.
Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
Maintain strict confidentiality.
Preference may be given to applicants with previous experience working with disabled children.
A valid Utah driver license with clean driving record.
Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.

There are risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. being subject to possible physical attack. Risks are related to the possibility of working with students who are non-compliant, self-abusive, and/or aggressive.
This position has strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students with limited mobility and/or their personal needs equipment. Must be able to lift and carry over fifty (50) pounds.
