The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Resources, has seasonal positions (no benefits) available throughout the state (locations are listed below). This appointment will start in April or May and will last through August or the end of October.
Examples of Duties:
As a member of a team of technicians, the successful applicants will aid in implementing the Utah Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan, with particular attention given to preventing the spread of quagga and zebra mussels in Utah’s waterways. A large portion of the job is in outreach and communication, by which boaters will be educated about quagga and zebra mussels and what their role is in fighting this threat.
Duties will include interviewing boaters and educating them about the threat of Aquatic Invasive Species, data collection and entry, inspecting boats for the presence of AIS or standing water, assessing biological risk that watercraft may pose on Utah’s waters and decontaminating of boats and equipment with a hot water/high pressure sprayer.
Job Requirements and Skills
Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid Utah driver’s license at time of employment. Applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule, with weekends and holidays (e.g., Memorial Day, Fourth of July, July 24, Labor Day, etc.) mandatory. Applicants must be self-motivated, honest, able and willing to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions. Applicants must be able to work alone and as a contributing member of a team. Preference may be given to “ watercraft-savvy” applicants, with an understanding of boat types and internal water systems (ballast tanks, live wells, cooling systems, etc.), or who are pursuing a degree in biology, fisheries, natural resources or criminal justice. Basic mechanical aptitude is helpful. Applicants who live in or near the positions locations or nearby area (or who can arrange such housing) will be given additional preference.

Applicants must be willing to work in an outdoor setting, communicate well with others, be able to maintain professionalism while in potentially stressful situations, and work weekends and holidays.
Rate of pay is $15.75 or $17.85 hourly depending on the location . *See locations below.
