Job Title: Weights and Measures Inspector I
Location: Iron and Washington County
Job Description:
Incumbents in this job provide a limited range of weights and measures testing services in a regulatory capacity and at the customer’s request. Incumbents typically work under close supervision and participate in structured on-the-job training to develop the skills and credentials required to provide a full range of advanced inspection services. Inspects weighing and measuring devices which include fuel pumps and small scales, packaged commodities for net content for labeled representation, and proper methods of sale of goods and services. Price verification includes the accuracy of scanners and methods and recommends products be removed from sale that are not in compliance with minimum requirements. Respond to customer complaints and offer resolutions. Compile accurate reports of inspections.

Responsibilities
Inspects and/or certifies weighing and measuring devices.
Condemns, detains, embargoes, or stops the sale of unfit equipment or machinery.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
Issues or recommends issuance of orders, citations, sanctions, and/or warnings for infractions involving violations of federal and/or state laws, rules, and regulations.
Maintains detailed inspection or investigation records, prepares reports, and attends to other related administrative requirements.
Operates, maintains, calibrates, and adjusts specialized equipment.
Analyze and test items. Interpret results and/or implement changes.
Receives, researches, and responds to incoming questions or complaints; provides information, explains policy and procedures, and/or facilitates a resolution.
Qualifications
Experience with liquefied petroleum gas (LGP) and compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel dispensers, and products.
Experience with liquid measuring devices for gas pumps and other devices.
Experience with testing equipment and understanding the mechanics and operation of weighing and measuring devices.
Experience inspecting weights and measures of any kind.
Ability to communicate in adverse situations.
Experience with a computer program and the ability to record and keep detailed records.
Supplemental Information
Completion of specialized training developed by the National Conference of Weights and Measures and National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Exposure to adverse, inclement, and varying weather conditions
Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.
Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
