The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our agency. We are looking for three caring and motivated Paraprofessionals for the Blind/Visually Impaired to work with our blind/visually impaired students under the supervision of an Instructor for the Blind/Visually Impaired at USDB. These positions will be working in Salt Lake City.
*These positions will start working in August for the 23-24 school year.*
Principal Duties:
As a Paraprofessional you will:
Prepare teaching materials and tutor individual students under the supervision of the instructor
Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor
Perform such duties as may relate to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas
Assist with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor
Assist with routine daily activities, i.e. bus duty, recess, lunch, bathroom (may include diapering), etc.
Provide support in a classroom environment by working directly with teachers and students.
Maintain accurate records and logs.
Design and/or prepare training/instructional materials, teaching aides, and devices.
These are part-time positions for nine (9) months (181) days each school year. Work schedule Monday through Friday, thirty (30) hours per week.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position will possess:Practical knowledge of basic classroom techniques and organization.
Techniques for assisting and providing effective support to classroom teachers.
Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
Excited about working with students with disabilities.
Positive in their dealings with teachers and other staff.
Good listeners who follow directions well.
Respected and trusted by students and parents.
Willing to be flexible in work tasks and assignments.
Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.

Supplemental Information
There are risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. being subject to possible physical attack. Risks are related to the possibility of working with students who are non-compliant, self-abusive, and/or aggressive.
This position has strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students with limited mobility and/or their personal needs equipment. Must be able to lift and carry over fifty (50) pounds.
These are part-time positions for nine (9) months (181 days) each school year. Work schedule Monday through Friday, thirty (30) hours per week.
