If you’re hardworking, dependable and interested in a position that gets you out from behind a desk, keep reading! Join our team as a General Services Technician to help sort and deliver incoming mail, and prepare outgoing mail shipments.

While our current need is for the AM and Day shifts, this recruitment may be used to fill positions on all three shifts.

AM shift is from 3:00 am – 11:30 am or 4:00 am – 12:30 pm, which includes a 30 minute unpaid lunch, and will receive a 90 cent shift differential for all hours worked in addition your base hourly pay. (Sick days, vacation days, and holidays do not qualify for the shift differential.)
Day shift is from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm or 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, which includes a 30 minute unpaid lunch. This shift does not offer a shift differential.
PM shift is from 11:00 am – 7:30 pm, which includes a 30 minute unpaid lunch, and will receive a 60 cent shift differential for all hours worked in addition your base hourly pay. (Sick days, vacation days, and holidays do not qualify for the shift differential.)
A skills test may be required prior to a formal interview.

Principal Duties
As a General Services Technician you will:Apply postage to the outgoing mail using the postage meter.
Operate mail service and related equipment such as postage meters, sorters, mail inserting machines, inkjet addressing machines, and bar coders.
Presort mail and prepare it for the nightly drop at the post office.
Drop off mail to post office.
Act as a courier by going to other state agencies for mail pick up and deliveries as needed.
Plan, prepare and coordinate out-going shipments of mail, including bulk mailings.
Prepare and maintain records, reports, logs, etc., of jobs, schedules, usage, etc.

The Best Qualified Candidate
To interview for this position you must:Be punctual and dependable.
Be able to lift up to 30-45 pounds consistently and frequently.
Be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Be a licensed driver.
Additional points will be awarded to applicants with delivery and/or mail processing experience.

The Division
State Mail & Distribution Services is part of the Utah Division of Purchasing & General Services, and provides mail preparation and distribution services to State agencies.

This job requires a valid driver license to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).

Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.
