**This is a flexible position offering in-person and remote work options for State of Utah residents. In order to work from home, the successful candidate will need to have WIFI access in their home.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this Mediator position, you will be able to apply your active listening, conflict resolution, and negotiating skills with parties, to resolve employment discrimination, fair housing, and wage claim cases for the State of Utah. Your roles and responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

Helping generate viable and effective solutions for all parties involved in administrative proceedings before the Labor Commission’s UALD.

Managing emotionally charged situations and resolving conflict.

Encouraging parties to consider both the strengths and weaknesses in their legal positions as they explore a possible settlement.

Using creativity and ingenuity when exploring ways that parties may successfully reach a resolution.

Quickly and efficiently assessing the relevant facts as stated by both parties, identifying the legal issues in order to understand the overall context of the dispute, and evaluating the legal dispute, the interests of the parties, and potential risks for the disputants.

Drafting settlement agreements that accurately reflect the terms of settlement.

Receiving and responding to inquiries regarding UALD’s dispute resolution services.

Working with the parties to finalize all required documentation in a timely manner once a settlement agreement is reached.

Conducting mediations and finalizing settlements documentation within specified time frames.

Documenting all actions related to assigned cases.

Maintaining neutrality in disputes.

Preserving strict confidentiality.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The ability to work as an intermediary to facilitate the resolution of differences, conflicts, or complaints.

Expert and thorough knowledge of and the ability to read and apply appropriate laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Exceptional writing skills with the ability to write clearly and concisely including the ability to draft correspondence, reports, legal documents, and other written materials.
The ability to work independently and collaboratively and prioritize tasks with little or no supervision.
The ability to deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, decorum, and professionalism.

PREFERRED

Completion of forty-hours of court approved mediation training.

A Juris Doctorate.
Prior experience as a mediator.

Retirement – Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off:
Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
We have 12 paid holidays.
