Program Specialist II, DSPD
The Division of Services for People with Disabilities, within the Department of Human Services, is looking for a dedicated professional to fill our Program Specialist II position. The Program Specialist II will assist individuals and families with finding affordable housing for those who are disabled and homeless, senior citizens, and low to moderate income persons.

The Agency
The Department of Human Services is dedicated to provide care for individuals and families in Utah. Utah Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) promotes opportunities and provides support for people with disabilities to lead self-determined lives by overseeing home and community-based services for more than 6,000 people who have disabilities.
Example of Duties
Work with community organizations, government agencies and property owners to assist in secure living arrangements.
Help direct or apply for housing rental assistance programs based on need and housing eviction prevention on behalf of individuals we serve.
Conduct an eligibility assessment for each person/family and identify any available housing or programs that could assist in securing permanent housing based on the individuals or family need.
Familiarize individuals with their rights and responsibilities as tenants, and teach them how to resolve issues with their landlords.
Increase the inventory of available housing by reaching out to property owners and local resources.
Assist in finding resources with financial means to secure decent housing.
Work closely with contracted DSPD providers and support coordinators in following up on individuals to ensure they are maintaining housing though rental subsidy programs and getting required documents to accompany applications for programs as required by those agencies.
Qualifications
Has experience supporting individuals with disabilities to lead self-determined lives;
Has 3 years or more of related experience working in social work; and/or with housing rental assistance programs;
Has property management experience;
Can accurately interpret rules and regulations (relating to federal government housing programs)
Supplemental Information
The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and remote work days. Please note, a position’s eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
