Utah Correctional Industries is seeking a Production Manager in Salt Lake City, UT to direct and oversee a certain area within the production/service operations.
Job Functions Include:
Oversee building of modular homes.
Production and quality control of Utah Correctional Industries products and services.
Direct and/or coordinate construction programs.
Supervise staff.
Assist in budget development/implementation.
Coordinate materials purchases/deliveries.
Instruction and training to staff and offenders involved in learning a trade.
Adherence to safety and security guidelines, policies and practices while working in and around this environment.
The Ideal Candidate:
Background in construction
Basic understanding of the inmate classification and disciplinary system for inmate management.
Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
Exercise authority or influence.
Control or direct the operation of production an/or service operation.
Compose and produce reports, documents and related material.
Make a decision or solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions.

Responsibilities
Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
Develops, directs, and/or evaluates programs.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
Reviews production for problems and proposes solutions, enhancements, procedural changes.
Monitors agency or program budget including revenues, expenditures and budget projection.
Evaluates the financial aspects of product development, such as budgets, expenditures, research and development appropriations.
Coordinates program activities, services, and/or program implementation with private providers, other governmental entities, program users, etc.
Reviews and/or inspects work for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
Coordinates an inventory management system to effectively control and distribute supplies and equipment.
Develops alternative supply sources and may perform research on market conditions and product development.
Identify, develop, or evaluate marketing strategy, based on knowledge of objectives, market characteristics, and cost and markup factors.
Formulate, direct, or coordinate marketing activities or policies to promote products or services.
Minimum Qualifications
The following include knowledge, skills, and abilities required upon entry into position and trainable after entry into position:
read and understand construction blueprints
build from blueprints
control or direct the operation of a program or function
develop approaches for implementation of an idea, program or change in operations
supervise others by assigning/directing work; conducting employee evaluations, staff training and development, taking appropriate disciplinary/corrective actions, making hiring/termination recommendations, etc.
obtain and see to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to perform a task
agency, professional and/or industry standards and practices
principles of production, processing, storage, and distribution of manufactured goods
principles, theories, and practices of budget management
principles, theories, and practices of storage, management tools and equipment
deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form
evaluate information against a set of standards
principles, theories, and practices of performance management
make a decision or solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions
recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong (does not involve solving the problem)
applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures
establish objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve these objectives
determine how money will be spent to get the work done, and accounting for these expenditures
identify the best person for a task, delegate assignments, and direct people as they work
speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally

Supplemental Information
Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas.
May be required to provide 24 hour on call services. Policy requires employee to provide on-call services to respond to situations which may occur during non-duty hours.
