The Utah State Board of Education is seeking applicants for an IT security engineer vacancy. USBE is looking for a security expert who will be responsible for managing and configuring the USBE security infrastructure. This includes managing technologies for boundary and application network security. The candidate will work alongside other IT operations personnel to maintain a robust infrastructure to meet agency needs

Principal Duties:
Design, deploy, and manage network security measures to protect systems and data.
Configure and maintain security hardware and software, including firewalls, vulnerability scanning tools, and endpoint security solutions.
Responsible for daily monitoring and analysis of security tools.
Collaborate with IT teams to implement network deployment projects and ensure compliance with security policies.
Perform secure audits/checks to ensure systems are working as intended.
Manage hardware and software lifecycle, licensing, and support.
Architect cloud and on-premise virtual infrastructure network segments using zero-trust models.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree or higher in an IT-related field
Cisco, Palo Alto, Nutanix, VMWare, Microsoft Azure, F5, CompTIA and other IT-related certifications
5+ years of IT experience with at least three years in a security administrator role
Strong understanding of network infrastructure, security protocols, and best practices
Adept at producing diagrams and presentations for use in communication with various levels of management and staff in both the business and IT
Able to recognize forward-looking business needs along with industry, business, and IT trends
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Strong prioritization skills – organized and efficient
Communicating in language that non-tech people can understand
Ability to manage relationships while demonstrating persistence and problem-solving
Ability to adapt to new and changing situations
Experience in Agile methodologies, cybersecurity frameworks, and zero trust is a plus
