GLOBAL MARKETS SPECIALIST
 

The Utah Office of Tourism seeks a talented Global Markets Specialist to support and execute international travel trade and marketing strategies.
 

The Agency
The Utah Office of Tourism’s (UOT) mission is to elevate life in Utah through responsible tourism stewardship. We do this through marketing, stewardship, and development.
 

Marketing: UOT curates messaging that inspires visitation, supports local businesses, and builds the Utah economy.
Stewardship: UOT manages visitation statewide and supports the responsible discovery of Utah.
Development: UOT partners with local communities to enhance and develop their visitor economies to benefit residents and visitors.
 

Guided by this mission and UOT’s Red Emerald strategic plan, we face the challenge of increasing Utah’s market share of (focused) global markets.
 

This, coupled with increasing visitor spending and length of stay with thoughtful education, calls for evaluating our current opportunities within legacy and emerging markets to ensure international marketing dollars are directed at opportunities with the highest returns.

Ideal Candidate
A successful candidate will have experience in hospitality and tourism marketing. The ideal candidate will be able to work with rural and urban Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) partners, business owners, elected officials, and others around the state. The ideal candidate can execute projects and see them through to completion. They will demonstrate patience, persistence, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work through complex issues.

 

Principal Duties
Oversee travel industry efforts, travel trade, and PR in assigned markets
Lead on tour operator/agent education and product development
Where applicable, manage contracted vendors in assigned markets
Develop and lead sales missions, consumer activations, and media events
Develop and strengthen strategic industry partnerships
Recommend and manage trade advertising plans for assigned markets, lead cooperative marketing campaigns
Complete accurate and prompt reporting for trade shows and sales missions with follow-up, including reporting for expense/travel reimbursement & KPI reports
Planning and presenting on behalf of the UOT at industry conferences, missions, press briefings, partner education seminars, and other events
Manage and maintain the CRM database
Work with the Global Markets Director to guide strategy and applicable market-specific budget recommendations.
Collaborate with Director(s) to recommend international consumer advertising campaigns.
 

Additional Duties
Manage ad-hoc marketing projects as needed to support the international team.
Support familiarization (FAM) tour planning and occasional hosting of journalists and tour operators around the state, including leading a group on a hike, light scrambling/bouldering, and other moderate outdoor-based physical activities
Collaborate with the Community and Partner Relations team on partner resources and destination development initiatives relative to international objectives.
 

Education and Training
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in tourism marketing
 

Competencies
Experience working with Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs)
Working knowledge of the travel trade and industry
Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely through writing and presentations
Ability to manage a portfolio of diverse projects and complete them in a timely manner
Ability to analyze data and summarize information
Experience managing a marketing plan and budget
Must be able to travel both in-state, out-of-state, and internationally an estimated 10-15% of the time, including evenings/overnights and some weekends
Proficiency in crafting presentations and ability to present and speak in front of a group
Comfortable receiving feedback from multiple sources
Collaborative, open-minded, and insightful
Experience traveling the state/familiar with the state’s assets and resources
Ability to stand for long periods, at trade shows, etc.
Ability & comfortable with driving a Suburban or other large passenger vehicle with passengers in the vehicle
Possession of and ability to retain a current, valid, state-issued driver’s license
Possession of and ability to retain a current, valid passport
Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Keynote & PPT
 

In addition, we would love it if you have the below competencies:
Experience working in a CRM system, preferably Salesforce
Experience working with elected officials, federal & state agencies
Experience working with the media, i.e., desk-side meetings, presentations, interviews, press releases, and pitches
Experience working in cloud-based & team sharing platforms, i.e., Google Drive, Asana, Slack, etc.
