The Utah Office of Tourism is seeking a Global Content & Tour Specialist to work with the international team. They will support our international familiarization (FAM) tours, media hosting, and international marketing and communication strategies.
The AgencyThe Utah Office of Tourism is the tourism marketing agency for the state of Utah. The original mission was to promote visitation by domestic and international visitors to Utah’s remarkable destinations. Through the office’s Red Emerald Strategic Plan, the mission has evolved. Marketing now prioritizes quality visitation, not simply the quantity of visitors. Working with the international media and travel trade in primary markets is a critical component to reaching the initiatives outlined in this plan.
Educating visitors on how to visit responsibly and working with industry professionals to create tourism products that support responsible tourism growth, coupled with outreach around Utah, are integral parts of a sustainable tourism economy.
The Utah Office of Tourism is an office within the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. We are located in historic Council Hall, right across the street from the State Capitol Building at 300 North State Street in Salt Lake City.
The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing and PR. The successful candidate will be able to work with rural and metropolitan Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) partners, business owners, regional elected officials, and others around the state. They can execute and balance multiple projects simultaneously, leading them to completion. They will demonstrate strong organizational habits, attention to detail, patience, persistence, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work through complex issues.
Principal Duties
Lead & execute multi-day familiarization (FAM) trips throughout Utah, hosting international and domestic journalists, content creators/influencers, tour operators, and other travel trade industry professionals
Manage an active pitch calendar for PR, and trade development for international markets, aligning with domestic strategies
Work with Director, Market Managers (traditionally a Global Specialist overseeing APAC and the Americas and a Global Specialist overseeing the EU and domestic travel trade efforts), and International Representative Firms to keep them apprised of updates, discuss market-appropriate pitches, and facilitate journalist/media FAM opportunities, activations, and events.
Support media activations and press conferences and facilitate op-eds and other ad-hoc international media/PR needs as they arise
Work with Market Managers, International Representative Firms, and DMO partners to discuss and plan FAM Tours, develop itineraries that meet the goals identified, and serve as the point person in partner outreach and communication of FAM tour planning.
Lead all FAM-related administrative tasks, including securing hotel rooms, collecting liability waivers, completing appropriate purchasing forms, and any associated team travel.
Lead on FAM standard operating procedure updates for the team, including safety protocols, equipment, and training; work with the office manager and operations manager to execute and provide resources.
Create itineraries for the b2b training platform/resource hub, multi-state collaborative efforts, trade-specific, niche itineraries, and other itineraries as needed
Manage the assets/resource page of the b2b training platform
Manage and maintain FAM Tour data and reporting in the CRM database
Manage the FAM project boards, calendars, and project best practices
Secondary Duties
Collaborate and support the domestic PR and social media teams on domestic FAMs/press trips and social media influencer trips, media activations, and other opportunities as they arise.
Support asset, branding, and copy review for Market Managers and International Representation Firms
Work with the partner relations team to develop new partner engagement strategies, collaborate on training/education, and support existing programs.
Collaborate with the Creative & Content team; support itinerary review/audits, copy editing, and other projects.
Work with the Utah Film Commission on all film tourism FAM projects and adhere to film permitting rules throughout the state.

Education, Experience, and Training
A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competent using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office products
Preferred
Experience working in the tourism industry
Experience traveling the state/familiar with the state’s assets and resources
Knowledge of Salesforce CRM
Experience working with elected officials, federal & state agencies

Supplemental Information
Job Conditions
We welcome candidates from all over the state, with the potential to be based anywhere.
Must be able to travel both in-state and out-of-state. (Possible International travel to Canada.)
Travel is estimated up to 40% of the time, including evenings/overnights and some weekends.
Travel varies seasonally and comes in spurts with weeks or months in the office with no travel or minimal travel, followed by 2-3 weeks in a row of heavy travel and ad-hoc travel with a few days between.
Travel is heaviest in the spring and fall (March-mid-May and September-October)
In addition to hosting FAM trips, travel may include attending domestic educational industry conferences, attending travel trade and media conferences, and hosting media events or missions in domestic and Canadian markets.
Extensive computer work and extensive driving are required
Ability & comfortable driving a Suburban or other large passenger vehicle with passengers.
Possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license.
This position operates in a professional business environment.
Physical capabilities to lead a group on a hike, light scrambling/bouldering, moderate winter sports activities, and other non-technical outdoor-based physical activities when hosting media and/or travel professionals around the state.
