The Utah State Tax Commission’s Financial Operations Division is looking for a motivated individual who can work both independently and with teams to fill our Financial Operations – Mail Room position. This person will play an integral role in the Tax Commission’s mission to provide quality service to both taxpayers and our colleagues. You must be current on your state and federal tax filings and pass a criminal background check.
Job Duties
The Financial Operations Division is looking for a Mail Room Technician to perform the following duties:
open, presort, sort, gather, and deliver agency mail to various locations;
prepare documents for scanning;
enter data for scanned documents;
enter address changes for returned mail;
extensive quality control of documents and returns;
collect work from other areas within the processing division at the Tax Commission.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should have experience in the following:Incumbents prepare a variety of tax documents, examine for completeness and payment verification.
Perform quality control functions and develop a thorough knowledge of multiple tax types and sorting and routing of documents.
Operate mail service equipment such as extraction machines and perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on the machinery.
Maintain written records.
May be assigned to perform other related mail room duties as assigned.
May assist in training other staff members on specific mail service equipment, operating, sorting and delivery activities.
May be required to occasionally use a computer and keyboard for mail tracking purposes.
Experience on a production line or excellent hand/eye coordination.
Schedule
The hours for this position are 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Starting salary for this position is $12.31 per hour.
Example of Duties
Sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing U.S. and interoffice mail.
Operates mail service equipment on a regularly recurring basis to handle varying kinds of incoming and outgoing mail. Operates rapid extraction desks and letter openers.
Prepares mail and related materials for shipment and/or pick up and deliver mail.
Repairs, cleans, adjusts and/or performs preventive maintenance on computers, equipment, tools, or machinery, etc.
Organizes, prepares and processes documents for scanning.
Maintains accurate records and logs.
Attends staff meetings and change-of-shift meetings, to obtain progress reports, case specific instructions and mentoring, etc.
Reviews and/or inspects work for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
Reviews documents and reconciles discrepancies; makes needed adjustments.
Enters and reviews information on a computer for mail tracking purposes.

Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines.
Physical RequirementsWork requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
Other RequirementsPersonal tax filings and vehicle registrations must be current and complete.
A conditional offer of employment will be made pending a satisfactory completion of a background investigation.
Must be physically able to lift up to 36 pounds.
