If this is you, then apply TODAY! The Office of Communicable Diseases is looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual who is also familiar with the R programming language to join our team as our Environmental Epidemiologist. This position plays an essential role within DHHS as you will manage our tracking data and data warehouse, fulfill data requests, and provide analytical and epidemiological support for investigations to the Environmental Epidemiology Program (EEP). Your duties will be completed under the guidance of the EEP Tracking Section Manager.

With the exception of official business, all work must be physically completed within the State of Utah. You must already be capable of meeting this requirement or be able to do so within 30 days of your start date.
A teleworking option is available. And at this time you have the option to telework 100% of the time or work in office 100% of the time. If you choose to telework, there may be occasions where are required to come into the office. This is all subject to change based on the needs of the agency.
Occasional out-of-state and in-state travel may be required

Principal Duties
Our Environmental Epidemiologist will:
Assist in maintaining and managing the Tracking data warehouse.
Fulfill data requests, including data reports required for the CDC.
Maintain the Tracking data views on Utah’s Public Health Tracking web portal.
Provide analytical and epidemiological support for investigations in the EEP.
Contribute epidemiological expertise on national tracking workgroups.
Assist the Tracking Project Lead with writing technical reports and grant applications.
Communicate to the public as it relates to the position

The Ideal Candidate has:The ability to work well with a team and independently.
The ability to think critically to identify and solve problems.
The ability to manage, manipulate, and analyze large data sets.
A high level of competency in the use of modern technology for presentation, communication, and collaboration using both software and hardware.
Understanding of website development and maintenance, WordPress experience is desirable.

In order to be successful as an Environmental Epidemiologist you:Must have a Master of Public Health (MPH, MSPH) degree or higher.
Must have work experience with statistical software programming languages like R. Python experience is also a plus.
Need to have strong background in technical and grant writing.
Must have the ability to clearly communicate (to include writing) in the English Language.
Need to enjoy working with date.

Working Conditions:

The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Standard Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Physical Requirements:Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
