DHHS Budget Director
The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is looking for the department’s Budget Director (DHHS Budget Director). The DHHS Budget Director helps oversee and coordinates the budget for the largest agency of the State – approximately $7 billion and more than 5,000 employees. The DHHS Budget Director is the Department liaison with the Legislative Fiscal Analyst Office. Duties include representing and defending the department budget to the Legislative Fiscal Analyst and the Legislature, coordinating department budget, advising executive directors and division management, responding to various requests, providing fiscal monitoring, supervising budget staff, and assisting with fiscal leadership of the Department. Department fiscal leadership along with other DFA Office Directors and Managers and assisting (with other DFA Office Directors in the leadership of DFA.
Open to State of Utah employees and private sector managers with considerable experience
Principal Duties
The Budget Director will need to be able to:Coordinate DHHS budget submission
Coordinate/analyze/defend budget recommendations
Review legislation for budget impact/recommendations
Mentor and manage financial staff
Analyze/summarize financial data
Prepare and communicate fiscal information
Lead (with DFA Office Directors, Managers and other Department leaders)
The Ideal Candidate
The model candidate for this position is someone who:Has at least a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field has experience with government operations/programs
Has experience preparing, monitoring, and analyzing financial information understands financial systems, operations, and budget information
Has experience working with Federal Revenue
Has skill understanding, summarizing, and communicating fiscal data
Can lead and motivate others
Has experience preparing and presenting financial information to various audiences
