Custodian
Utah State Correctional Facility
An incumbent in this job is responsible for managing housekeeping/laundry services at a State institution. Initiates and directs training programs for department personnel, unit staff, patients and all newly hired employees on topics such as Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS), proper handling of contaminated waste/infectious linens, and supervision of patient industrials(patients employed who perform limited duties). Incumbent is accountable for the expense budget, all department equipment, supplies and inventories. Ensures compliance with various federal regulations such as: JCAHO, HCF, HAZCOM, and OSHA standards/regulations. Prepares, recommends, and initiates policies and procedures to ensure compliance with issues of disposal of hazardous/infectious waste, infection control, training, federal and State regulations.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has the following:Professional experience in housekeeping practices, techniques and procedures.
Detail oriented.
Excellent communication skills.
Experience ensuring compliance with contract terms, policies and procedures.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Experience with many cleaning agents, products and equipment.

 

Responsibilities
 

Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
Coordinates and assigns projects; provides assistance in resolving problems; approves system changes and establishes project priorities.
Plans and allocates resources to ensure agency policies and state statutes are fully implemented.
Plans, develops and coordinates one or more large, complex projects.
Establishes cleaning and/or preventative maintenance schedules and coordinates these activities.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
Reviews and/or inspects work for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
Ensures that there is an adequate supply of materials available. Orders, receives, inspects, and stores equipment, merchandise, commodities, materials, and/or supplies.
Monitors agency or program budget including revenues, expenditures and budget projection, etc.
Serves on various boards, councils, committees, or task forces to coordinate agency activities and facilitate agency goals and initiatives.

Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
