The Utah Department of Corrections Division of Reentry and Rehabilitation is seeking a Director of Sex Offense Services to direct and coordinate a continuum of care that begins inside the prison and continues into the community. We are looking for a professional to lead our teams of highly skilled therapeutic staff in developing and implementing effective therapeutic programs and providing services that allow individuals to safely return to their communities. The Department of Corrections believes successful discharge begins at entry and is committed to the risk, needs, and responsivity model (RNR). The therapeutic concepts and methods utilized in the continuum of care are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The Director of Sex Offense will be charged with ensuring programming and assessments are evidenced based, data driven, and measurable.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree or higher in a related field of study such as social work, psychology, or counseling.

Current Utah license from the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL)
Evidence of advanced trainings and expertise in Sex Offense Assessments and Treatment

The Ideal candidate will also possess the following:

Prior training and supervised experience conducting and interpreting sex offense specific risk instruments and providing evidenced based treatments for this population

Current understanding of the sex offense specific literature
Experience working with a forensic population, especially within a correctional environment
Ability to network within the community and develop innovative and cost-effective programs and services that enhance individual success and public safety
Experience providing diagnosis impressions and differential diagnoses
Experience supervising students
Critical decision making/problem-solving skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively on interdisciplinary projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong Organizational Skills

Example of Specific Key Duties:
Plans, develops, implements and evaluates the day-to-day operations of the Sex Offense Treatment Programs

Supervises subordinates personnel including hiring, determining workload, and delegating assignments, training, monitoring, and evaluating performance
Monitors and manages program budget
Collaborates with other Department of Corrections divisions to support department’s mission and vision
Develops, directs, and implements policies and procedures
Develops treatment recommendations to help the Board of Pardons and the Sex Offense Treatment Program manage expectations of the clients and make sound treatment orders to improve client social functioning.
Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate guidance, and/or facilitates decisions with various stakeholders.
Individual and group psychotherapy with incarcerated individuals remains a possibility, depending on staffing patterns

Consults with others to discuss treatment plans, new or unusual situations, findings, options, and recommendations on client cases. Consults with other institutional staff regarding clinical and correctional management issues. This may include being a member of multidisciplinary treatment teams and attending treatment team meetings on a regular basis.

Retirement – Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off:
Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
We have 12 paid holidays.

This job is NOT public safety certified, and does not require peace officer status or certification.
Valid driver license required to drive a State of Utah motor vehicle per UCA 53-3-202(1)(a).
Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
NOTE: Department of Human Resource Management rules regarding promotions and transfers apply to current state employee.
