The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Child Nutrition team is currently seeking a talented and energetic individual to fill a Child Nutrition Specialist position on our Community Programs team specializing in childcare. As the specialist, you will provide services utilizing a broad range of expertise and leadership in the development of plans, programs, and policies that assist child and adult care centers and other institutions to develop, implement and improve administration and operation of Child and Adult Care Programs that operate out of the Utah State Board of Education.

Principal Duties
As a Child Nutrition Specialist, services typically include:

Completing program preapproval and auditing forms
Organizing, arranging, conducting, and presenting at training workshops and conferences
Daily communication with Federal, State, and local individuals and agencies through letters, email, phone calls, and in person visits
Conducting regulatory compliance through audits and technical assistance
Assisting in the development and implementation of curricular, operational and administrative programs
Assistance in development interpreting and implementing policy
This position may develop, implement, and annually evaluate the effectiveness of the grants an the State Plan
This position may develop budgets, ensuring funds are used in compliance with regulations and timeframes, prepare and submit financial status and data reports.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has:A Bachelor’s degree in public health, accounting, business, foods and nutrition, dietetics, education or a related field.
A minimum of one year of experience in Federal Child Nutrition Programs.

Example of Duties

Identify data and processes which suggest developing a pattern of problems or non-compliance from which general or specific trends and patters can be discerned requiring corrective action and technical assistance.
Enters and retrieves data for administrative reviews and follow up into software system.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
Monitors and evaluates operations, programs, processes and/or practices for quality and effectiveness; makes recommendations for improvement
Coordinates projects and ensures adequate administrative controls, quality and procedural efficiencies
Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations
Plan and manages projects and/or programs. Writes (or discusses) project/program plan(s), recommendation(s), and/or findings
Monitors agency or program budget including revenues, expenditures, and budget projection, etc.

Typical Qualifications

Principles, theories, and practice of public health policy, health meal planning, and nutrition;
Make a decision or solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions;
Develop approaches for implementation of an idea, program or change in operations;
Agency and/or organizational program(s);
Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally;
Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing;
Use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions;
Find, gather and collect information or data;
Ensure compliance with contract terms, policies and procedures, etc.;
Read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures;
Use computer word processing software (Microsoft Office) and internet;
Work with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism;
Work individually and as a team player;
Provide technical assistance to users;
Instructional methods and techniques;
Assess organizational needs such as staffing, training, security, etc.;
Compose and produce reports, documents and related material;
Evaluate information against a set of standards;
Develop and maintain applicable professional contacts, resources and /or networks;
Develop curriculum, learning objectives, and/or course materials;
Deliver presentations or training using acceptable methods and techniques;
Understand principles, theories, and practices of budget management and procurement;
Basic knowledge of marketing principles, theories, and practices.

Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
