The Centralized Intake office of the Utah Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is looking to fill a Caseworker I/Social Service Worker (SSW) position. Come and be a part of DCFS Intake which is an important function of the Division by being the first point of contact for callers with information about children at risk.

The Centralized Intake Office operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is hiring for the swing shift Thursday through Monday, 1:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. This position will work weekends and some holidays.

This position is telework eligible. However, you may work only while physically within the state of Utah’s borders.

This position may be filled as a Caseworker I or as an SSW depending upon the qualifications of the applicant.

CASEWORKER I: Pay: $20.00. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Family and Human Development, Criminal Justice or a closely related field.

SOCIAL SERVICE WORKER (SSW): Pay: $22.21. Requires an active Social Service Worker License or a higher, related license (Certified Social Worker, LCSW, etc.) from the State of Utah.

Duties include receiving and processing referrals for child abuse and neglect, processing referrals made to the child abuse and neglect intake line, referrals requested through facsimile and referrals made by other methods. The employee will document this information into SAFE and will determine whether the information received meets the criteria for a child abuse and neglect investigation. When the information is determined to meet the criteria and a case is opened in SAFE, incumbents will assign the case to the appropriate supervisor and in some cases the incumbent will immediately call the caseworker to pass along the information for an immediate response. Incumbents will also provide agency and resource information to the public.

Principal Duties

Answers calls to the child abuse and neglect hotline.
Gathers all necessary information from the referent in order to process the referral.
Documents all information into SAFE.
Determines if a CPS or other type of case shall be opened using practice guideline definitions, staffings, and other methods.
Determines which priority will be assigned to the CPS case.
Processes police reports to document into SAFE and determine if they meet the criteria to open a CPS case.
Searches databases for information.
Opens cases in SAFE.
Assigns cases to the appropriate supervisor.
Answers questions about available resources and agency practices.

Preference
Preference may be given to applicants with DCFS work experience, or to applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree internship with DCFS or to those who have child welfare work experience.

The Ideal Candidate
The model candidate for this position is someone who:Holds a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, family and human development, human services, criminal justice or degree closely related to social work.or has a current social service worker license or a higher social work related license active in the State of Utah (required for the Social Service Worker level position).
Possesses a current valid driver’s license.

Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, skill and abilities related to this job:

Caseworker I requires a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, family and human development, human services or a closely related degree.
SSW requires an active Social Service Worker or related license with the State of Utah (Certified Social Worker, LCSW, etc.)
knowledge of principles, theories and practices of human growth and development
use State or agency-specific software application program(s)
compose and produce reports, documents and related material
read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures
knowledge of agency and community resources and services
applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures
