Job Title: Watershed CoordinatorLocation: Logan, UtahJob Description: The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food seeks a full-time Watershed Coordinator for the Bear River Watershed based out of Logan, Utah. The Coordinator leads locally-led watershed planning efforts and serves as a key liaison between local watershed groups, landowners, partner agencies, NGOs, and local officials to develop and implement projects that address non-point source water pollution. Working collaboratively with stakeholders, the Watershed Coordinator leads water quality data collection, identifies funding opportunities, develops grant proposals, and provides technical assistance for watershed improvement projects. Core responsibilities include implementing Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) and watershed protection priorities, developing multi-stakeholder watershed plans, and conducting water quality monitoring for assessment and project monitoring. This exempt position is funded by a federal 319 grant through the Utah Division of Water Quality and operates under the direction of the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food, with support from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the Utah Division of Water Quality. The office location is at the United States Department of Agriculture Service Center in North Logan, Utah.Principal Duties: Project Development & ImplementationPlanned and implemented nonpoint source pollution reduction projects that met the priorities of TMDLs and watershed plans.Oversee project designs, permitting documents, and implementation plans.Support landowners with conservation planning and practice selection that reduces nonpoint source pollution.Provide technical guidance on project design, implementation, and maintenance.Conduct water quality monitoring to aid in the statewide water quality assessment and evaluate project effectiveness.Lead work groups and coordinate with technical experts.Stakeholder Engagement & EducationFacilitate locally-led watershed planning efforts.Serve as liaison between agencies, organizations, and stakeholders.Work with landowners, Conservation Districts, and watershed groups to promote activities that reduce nonpoint source pollution.Develop and deliver educational materials and outreach programs that address water quality concerns.Present at meetings, conferences, and workshops.Funding & AdministrationDevelop funding proposals with local partners.Prepare grant applications and work plans.Track and record matching funds from cooperators.Monitor project implementation and complete required reporting.Work with Conservation Districts on initiatives that align with watershed goals.Ideal Candidate: Possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience in natural resource management, agriculture sciences, or other environmental and biological sciences.Have a high degree of self-motivation and work with minimal supervision. Must work well with technical and professional staff, elected officials, and local stakeholders.Possess a valid Utah vehicle driver’s license. This position requires the use of a personal vehicle on both public and private roads during daylight hours and after dark. Mileage will be compensated for business use of personal vehicles.
