The Program Assistant provides support to the Student Governance Advisor and the Programming Advisor by assisting with the planning and implementation of various student-led initiatives within the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU). The Program Assistant will compile, sort, and organize data and conduct program research to support student leaders and staff. This would be in the form of conducting surveys, evaluating survey data, and sharing results to inform ASUU programs and initiatives. The Program Assistant is responsible for enhancing existing programs/events and developing new and innovative opportunities for students to engage on campus.
The Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) is the student government representing all 30,000+ undergraduate and graduate students. ASUU is structured with an executive cabinet of an elected president, vice presidents, and their appointed board directors, an Assembly of 34 and a Senate of 17 elected student representatives from the various colleges, and a Supreme Court. Five to seven professional staff members serve as advisors to the various bodies of ASUU and fall within the department of Student Leadership & Involvement. This position’s focus will be assisting the Programming advisor and the Student Governance Advisor, working with appointed and elected student leaders on various student-led initiatives, and activities for students at large. Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Assists with program planning and implementation.
Compiles, sorts, and organizes data for entry into a database, distributes program information, and conducts program research.
Answers telephones and gives information to callers, takes messages, or transfers calls to appropriate individuals.
Greets visitors and communicates with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate or explain information, and address complaints.
Responds to queries from and coordinates activities with other departments, the community, and program partners.
Assists in the creation and distribution of program materials, forms, and general correspondence.
May track and report on current trends to determine future program needs.
May provide program specific training.
Other duties as assigned.
Legislative & Program Support
Administrative support with planning logistics for events, meetings, organizing materials, and coordinating attendance
Will be required to attend meetings and programs which may fall after business hours.
Evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of legislative initiatives
Assist students in conducting surveys and collecting data for legislative initiatives
Enhance existing programs/events and develop new and innovative opportunities for students to engage on campus.
Assist in coordinating engagement with university committees and task forces
Assist with the uploading of programs to our University Campus Connect System and conducting regular assessments of campus programs.
Provide office support, assist students, assist in the implementation of policies and procedures, and represent Student Leadership and Involvement as a staff member, may be asked to cover the front desk.
Assist the Programming Advisor in supporting other ASUU programming efforts led by student leaders, as needed.

Problem Solving
Incumbents in this position are expected to be familiar with the department’s policies and procedures and have working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures in order to answer and assist staff and visitors. Incumbents are also expected to demonstrate sensitivity to others’ needs while being understanding and helpful on the job.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education) required. Two years of related experience, ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks, expertise using MS Office software, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Database experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be preferred.
