Job Description
The Utah State Board of Education is recruiting for a part-time Ethnic Studies education specialist. This position offers the exciting opportunity to support the implementation of SB 244 Ethnic Studies Amendments. The ideal candidate would have experience with K-12 education, be a dynamic self-starter committed to collaboration and teamwork, and be motivated by the unique opportunities of this vitally important work. The specialist would support, collaborate with, and help implement the recommendations of the Ethnic Studies Commission, a newly formed body created as part of the legislation. Excellent communication skills will be essential. This half-time position will offer flexible hours and the flexibility of remote work, as well as opportunities to collaborate across all relevant departments of the Utah State Board of Education.

Principal Duties:

Ethnic Studies Program administration, including all reporting, follow-up, school support, and legislative reports.
Planning, developing, promoting, and implementing the process for infusing ethnic studies into academic standards.
Implementing recommendations for changes to standards consistent with the vision of the Ethnic Studies legislation.
Designing and providing professional learning for educators regarding the ethnic studies standards and curricular initiatives.
Collaborating with stakeholders, including USBE, colleges, universities, nonprofits, and governmental agencies to maximize the reach and impact of the legislation.
Interpreting, clarifying, explaining and applying USBE policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulations, etc.
Completing other duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate will possess:Experience in providing professional learning to adults
Outstanding communication skills
Experience in K-12 public education and standards and curriculum development
Preference will be given to applicants with a B.A. or additional degrees
Preference will be given to those applicants with a current Utah State education license
